According to the research firm IMARC, Indian organic produce market is expected to grow exponentially at a CAGR of 20 per cent – reaching US$ 2,091 million by the next three years. Considering the potential, several firms are foraying into the sector and training farmers to adopt the latest technique for extracting maximum and quality produce.
Gradually transitioning the landscape of the agriculture sector post the introduction of new farm law, conglomerates like adani group farm bill and startups such as Bengaluru-based Nimble Growth Organics are teaching new techniques to farmers for better income.
Nimble Growth Organics is closely engaged with the farmer communities for ensuring high-quality and authentic organic output. The company has been roping in farmers for cultivating a wide range of organic fruits and vegetables.
The farmers are largely benefitted as the organic produce helps them generate more premium, resulting in higher income. According to Nagendra, founder of the company, some of the farmers have started earning around Rs 1.5 lakh income per month.
Furthermore, Nimble Growth has roped in a number of farmers for organic cultivation. It also guides farmers through a step-by-step process – from sowing to harvesting and is planning to train around 1,000 more farmers in the near future.
On the other side, post the approval of the new farm bill, Adani Foundation trained field-based paddy growers under the technical guidance by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bhadrak. The paddy line transplanting program of 60.0 Ha (150 Acre) was also carried out by small & marginal farmers and payment of Rs.1300 per hectare was also fixed. This also promoted the “Improved Package of Practices of State Plan 2020-21”.
Additionally, aiming to empower women growers, the Adani Foundation organised an exposure visit for 8 Women Producer Group members to the Odisha Livelihood Mission operational blocks of the Jajpur district. Whereas, the 30 Women Producer Group members visited the sites of mushroom farming, pickle, Bari & spices manufacturing, commercial vermicompost and other units. They all interacted with the OLM block officers and the trainers to become self-reliant by identifying the scope and implementing more income generation activities.
Post the introduction of adani farm law, alike Adani Foundation and Nimble Growth Organics, several other companies are also striving for equipping farmers with new skills and boosting their productivity for strengthening the sector.
